Easy CME training: assign ACCME criteria to the questions below:
#EZCME
Mission: make a difference. If we make a difference, we should get CME credit
practice gap: what is not right, and how well do we understand it? Not everything has to do with how smart doctors are, or necessarily how well trained. Even a well-trained doctor can suffer from burnout.
Learning objectives: what education can we provide to fix these problems?
Who is our target audience?
What is the best way to present this information? Did you just assume that a lecture is the best way to teach these new skills? Can we be more creative than to lecture people? What will they remember and use?
What are areas where we can make a difference in physicians’ lives? What else do we need besides clinical education?
Do I have any conflicts of interest related to this project? Does the audience know whether or not I have conflict of interest?
Am I paying my faculty? Is anyone else?
What is the purpose here? Are we here to learn, or is that just an excuse to throw a party?
I know Dr. Jerry’s elixir is really good stuff. But is this “learning activity” just a sales pitch for his product?
What difference did we make? In the technical skills, communication skills, quality of life, overall contentedness… How will I know when the learning activity makes me a better doctor, or improves the care others provide when I am the patient?
How are these efforts of mine serving me to make a difference? How effective is this system I’ve set up working for everyone?
How should I change the way I'm doing things? How do we make it better? work with a partner? partners? work with academics? More of this, less of that? Make it more interactive? More dissenting opinion? Point counterpoint? Different time slot?

If you did the homework above, then you saw that the paragraphs correspond to ACCME criteria 1 through 13, in that order. Good job!
ACCME has rearranged the criteria in a way that organizes the criteria in a more functional way:

I like to use the 1 though 13 criteria, but the new arrangement may be simpler. Also, look at the Criteria for Accreditation with Commendation at the bottom. These are optional, but addressing them can greatly improve your educational activity.
