ABOUT US

City of Smile Charitable Foundation provides lifesaving support to children and young adults of Armenia, through the age of 25, who have cancer or blood disorders.  Our mission is to ensure that financial scarcity of the family in no way  affects the ability of the child to received the needed treatment.
The foundation acts in this capacity since fall of 2018.

1. MEDICAL EXPENSES

City օf Smile Foundation fully covers all the expenses needed for the treatment in Armenia, as prescribed by the doctors, such as: variety of laboratory tests, medication, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical interventions, placement of port-a-cats, prothesis and etc..

Currently the Foundation has more than 300 registered beneficiaries about 70% of which come from regions of Armenia and from Artsakh.
Average monthly budget to cover these expenses is about 25-35 mln. AMD (US $50,000- $73,000).
So far the foundation has provided about US $1,000,000 in asistance to those kids.

2. 4-TIMES/ DAY MEAL

Foundation provides 4-times/day meal to all patients receiving treatment at the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center throughout their whole stay. The purpose is to make sure that all the children are able to get same quality of food, which is balanced and nutricious.  Which in turn should help them resist and fight back the exhausting effects of chemotherapy. Here again, we have decided that every child should have equal access to quality food, while being treated for cancer.
To provide a meal for one child a day is a 2,500 AMD (US $5.2), therefore to provide one child with meals for 1 month costs 75,000 AMD (US$156).

3. PSYCHOSOCIAL SERVICE

The Clinical Psychologist of City of Smile Foundation provides appropriate support to children with oncological disorders and their families within the Psychosocial Service of the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, simultaneously managing the Service activities.  During this period more than 80 familes have benefited from this service.

4. RESEARCH PROGRAMS
  • City of Smile Foundation, in collaboration with its partners, takes the first steps in the history of Armenia to create pediatric cancer registry. Cancer Registry is an information system designed for the collection, storage, and management of data on children with cancer for the past 30 years.
  • The Program for Development and Introduction of Guidelines for Pediatric Oncology has also been launched, with the first year of development of 20 pediatric oncology guidelines for specific diseases, as well as for primary care, nurses, and emergency situations in pediatric oncology.
5. CAPACITY BUILDING
In collaboration with our partners - internationally highly reputable hospitals, various in-house and outgoing trainings, consulting sessions and other activities are being organized and conducted for doctors and medical staff to develop their capacities and enhance their professional knowledge.
To improve the functioning of the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Armenia the Foundation on demand basis donates different medical supplies, equipment and  systems.

6. AWARENESS RAISING
  • Within the framework of awareness raising, City of Smile Charitable Foundation and its partners support the ongoing work of www.cancer.am. The website contains information on types of cancer, medical facilities, doctors, and other questions of concern to patients and their families.
  • The events organized by City of Smile Charitable Foundation and its partners are also aimed at spreading accurate information on cancer.
7. PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE DEPARTMENT

CHALLENGES

Just like probably most of your organizations, our Foundation is also seriously affected by the current situation around the world. All our major fundraising events (for the past 3 and upcoming 3 months have been cancelled), with no assurance when things will resume. However you all perfectly understand that cancer does not wait, and we have to make sure that the treatment of our kids is in no way interrupted. When we started our work we promised both our kids and their families that we will be there for them  and will support them throughout their difficult journey. And we are not ready to break our promise !

With this being a great concern of both Mrs. Hakobyan and me, we have decided to reach out to everyone, who can help in any way. Mrs. Hakobyan has also recorded a video message, where she is asking both individuals and organizations to support in any way they can. We can not let our kids down!

With this being said, I would really appreciate if you could share this information both with your organization's leadership team as well as with your friends and family for possible support.
Currently we also have a 501(c)(3) registration in US, so people living in US can make donations there in order to get their tax-exemptions.
Donations can be made through following links:

Also during our call I mentioned that we are currently in process of building first Pediatric Cancer Palliative unit in Armenia. We hope to be able to finish the works by the end of this year. However here also we have some shortage of funding.
Total cost of the project is about 125 mln. AMD (US $260,000) for about 300 sq.m area. The unit will have 5 patient rooms, 2 rooms for medical staff, play room and common use room. Attached I am also sending you the design book of the project, so that you can see what we aim/hope to have upon completion.

Currently we are offering room sponsorship/naming options. We will be very grateful and happy to see your organization or your family among the supporters of this very important and very much needed unit for our kids who are to go into palliative care.

Those who wish to contribute to this project, can either become a project sponsor or donate toward a room being named after their organization or family name. The options to donate to this project are following:

10 mln. AMD  (US $21,800) and more - the name of the donor will be written on the main wall of the unit as Project Sponsor.
5 mln. AMD (US $10,500) -  one of the patient rooms will be named after the donor organization or family

If there are any questions or you need further clarifications, please feel free to contact me.

Look forward to hearing from you.
 Stay healthy and safe.
 Best Regards,
