Reciprocal Education to Promote American Indian Recognition (REPAIR) to support Ohlone culture |
In 2022, the City of Oakland completed a multi-year effort to return sacred land to the Ohlone tribe of California. There is still much work to be done in terms of land use. This is an opportunity for the Armenian community to recognize the hardships and discrimination faced by another native population whose history is in some ways similar to our own.
Approx $10K would be a nice token gesture to commemorate our community support for the Ohlone population and to let them know their history is not forgotten. It would also recognize the need for populations to recognize each others' genocides, land losses and cultural erasure. The Muwekma Ohlone tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area is attempting to raise $150,000, having raised $12K so far.

Other cultural groups who might sympathise with this effort include anyone who has been treated like a second-class population:
- Japanese-Americans
- Chinese
- Hawaiians
- Hispanics
- and so on
