Recently, on the initiative of the French affiliate of the “Hayasdan” All-Armenian Fund, members of the French-Armenian Medical Union visiting Armenia implemented a charitable project in 7 village communities of the Lori marz.
More than 400 Children and adults were inspected within the framework of the project. It had been planned to examine schoolchildren only, nevertheless, many pre-schoolers and adults were also examined. Inhabitants from the villages of Dzyunashogh and Paghaghbyur were examined at the Medzavan community Health-Care Center, and the inhabitants from the villages of Gogavan, Artsni and Apaven were examined at the Dzoramut elementary school, where the specialists were situated. The reception of the specialists at the rural communities was organized by members of the All-Armenia Fund staff.
The doctors had already visited the above-mentioned 7 communities in the springtime, to train the local nurses and register the children with visual problems. This time they returned, bringing with them modern equipment, frames and glasses, which were distributed, free of charge, to those community members who required them.
The “French-Armenian Medical Union” unites various specialists from the health-care scope who reside in France (surgeons, opticians, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists). The union was established in Paris in the year 1975. Even since the destructive earthquake in 1988, the “French-Armenian Medical Union” has been implementing periodical charitable projects in Armenia and Artsakh. Amongst these projects is the charitable eye-care project which was realized in Armenia for the fifth consequent year.
In the opinion of the caretaker executive director of the All-Armenian Fund, Ara Vartanyan, “The fund is always ready to assist any charitable project. It is through projects such as this that the fund helps create strong links between our small communities and diverse Armenian structures working throughout the world”.
